A Dubai beach day works best with one shoreline, a comfortable travel plan and time to cool down. Start with the facilities your group needs, then choose between Kite Beach, JBR, Sunset Beach and Al Mamzar. A public beach visit can be independent; reserve only the paid extras you want.

Which Dubai beach should you choose?

BeachPlanning focus
Kite BeachBeach activities, food outlets and practical facilities
The Beach, JBRSeaside dining and a day around the Marina district
Sunset BeachA shoreline walk and Burj Al Arab photographs
Khor Al Mamzar BeachThe redeveloped waterfront, walking tracks and designated night-swimming area
Al Mamzar Beach ParkA separate park visit with picnic areas and its own admission rules

Visit Dubai’s beach guide is a useful starting point. Public sand access and a reserved beach-club sunbed are different arrangements. Check the specific area before assuming shade, towels or a pool are included.

Check the exact beach and current access

Access checked 20 September 2026: Visit Dubai lists Al Sufouh Beach, also known as Secret Beach, as closed until further notice. Leave it out of your itinerary unless the official notice changes.

The Government of Dubai announced the opening of Khor Al Mamzar Beach in May 2026. This first phase is distinct from Al Mamzar Beach Park and the Corniche development. Do not assume every announced future facility is already open.

For Al Mamzar Beach Park, check admission, current facilities and designated women-and-children days before setting off. Use the park entrance pin when visiting the park, rather than a general Al Mamzar shoreline pin.

Choose a comfortable time

Early morning or late afternoon can suit a shorter beach outing. In hotter months, avoid building the day around long midday walks. Bring drinking water and plan shade or an indoor break. Check that the facilities you need operate at your arrival time; restaurant hours do not define swimming hours.

Swimming and night access

Use designated swimming areas and follow the flags, signs and lifeguards. Stay out when swimming is prohibited, regardless of how calm the water looks. Keep children closely supervised and stay clear of watersports launch areas.

After dark, use only an officially designated, operating night-swimming zone. Dubai Municipality identifies areas at Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3 and Umm Suqeim 1 in its night-beach guidance; the newer Khor Al Mamzar opening also includes a designated night beach. A lit promenade does not make the whole shoreline a swimming zone.

Shade, showers and changing facilities

The Kite Beach website lists washrooms, showers, baby-changing rooms and a wheelchair service, alongside paid parking, umbrella rental and lounge chairs. Confirm availability and any service arrangements needed for your visit.

Elsewhere, check the location of toilets, changing rooms and accessible routes before choosing your spot. Bring your own towel unless a rental includes one. Never assume a free beach supplies free sunbeds or shade.

What to wear and bring

  • Suitable swimwear, a towel, dry clothes and a cover-up for streets and restaurants.
  • Water, a hat, sunglasses and sun protection.
  • Footwear for hot sand and paved paths.
  • A charged phone, payment method and a bag for wet items.

Keep valuables limited, use changing facilities and ask before photographing other people. Follow local signs for picnics, barbecues, pets and beach equipment.

Families and accessible visits

Choose a short route from drop-off to toilets and shade. A paved promenade does not guarantee easy access across sand or into the water. Ask about ramps, beach wheelchairs, assistance and accessible washrooms if these are essential. Confirm activity age limits and transfer child seats separately.

Plan the arrival and return

Save a named entrance and a practical pickup point. JBR can be combined with Metro and tram travel, but allow for the final walk. For Kite Beach or Al Mamzar, compare the complete bus, taxi or driving route from your hotel. Check current transport directions rather than assuming a Metro station reaches the sand.

Allow extra time for traffic, parking and changing. Agree the return pickup before putting your phone away.

A simple half-day plan

  1. Arrive at one beach and check swimming conditions and facilities.
  2. Enjoy a swim, walk or booked activity with water and shade breaks.
  3. Change into dry clothes and have a nearby meal.
  4. Return to the hotel or continue to one nearby stop.

JBR pairs with a Marina outing; read our Marina cruise guide if adding an evening sailing. Keep the boarding appointment separate from flexible beach time. See the UAE attractions guide and attraction tickets for other options.

Budget for the extras

Allow for transport, parking, meals, shade and any equipment hire. Park admission, hotel day passes and watersports have their own charges. Before buying, check guest categories, included items, any food-credit conditions and cancellation rules. Free public access does not include these extras.

Planning help from Friends Guide Travels

Send us your hotel, date and group size for transport or tour planning. Check the itinerary when adding a beach stop to a Dubai city tour: a photo stop does not promise swimming time, changing facilities or a beach-club pass. Arrange any required visa assistance separately.

Frequently asked questions

Which Dubai beaches suit first-time visitors?

Kite Beach and The Beach, JBR are useful starting points for food and activities. Choose one named beach with facilities that suit your group, and confirm the precise entrance and current swimming conditions.

How long should I allow for a Dubai beach visit?

For a relaxed visit, plan roughly two to four hours at one beach, plus transport. This is a suggested itinerary, not a ticket duration. Shorten outdoor time when the heat or conditions make it uncomfortable.

Do I need to book a public beach visit in advance?

A public beach visit usually needs no reservation. Book paid sunbeds, hotel day passes, watersports or transfers when required by the provider. Check what the purchase includes and its cancellation terms.

What is the best time for a Dubai beach visit?

Early morning or late afternoon can make outdoor time easier, particularly in hotter months. Check the forecast, beach flags and lifeguard instructions. Sunset does not automatically permit swimming after dark.

Are hotel transfers included with a public beach visit?

An independent public beach visit includes no hotel transport. If booking a transfer or package, confirm the named beach, exact drop-off and collection points, child seats and return timing.

How should I plan a family beach visit?

Choose easy access, toilets, shade and a manageable visit length. Keep children closely supervised around the water. Check activity age limits and whether the chosen park has restricted-entry days.

What should I wear and bring to a Dubai beach?

Use suitable swimwear at the beach and cover up before entering streets, shops or restaurants. Bring a towel, dry clothing, secure footwear, a hat and sun protection. Follow the venue’s dress guidance.

Can I combine a beach visit with another Dubai attraction?

Yes. Pair JBR with a Marina visit or keep a Jumeirah beach outing within that district. Leave time to change, eat and travel before any timed attraction or cruise.

What should I confirm before paying for beach extras?

For paid extras, confirm the date, venue, guest ages, inclusions, access restrictions, total cost and cancellation terms. Check whether towels, shade, food credit, parking or transfers are included.

How can Friends Guide Travel help plan my beach day?

The team can help plan transport and nearby tours around your chosen beach. Send your hotel, date, group size and requirements. A beach stop on a city tour does not automatically include swimming time or paid facilities.
