Liwa International Festival 2026–2027 Overview

Why the festival year can be confusing
The edition that opened in December 2025 and ended in January 2026 was promoted as LIWA 2026. The next edition begins in December 2026 and ends in January 2027. Search results may describe it by its opening year, closing year or official campaign name. The safest method is to check the exact dates rather than relying on “Liwa 2026” alone.
Liwa Festival is not the Liwa Dates Festival
Liwa International Festival is the winter event associated with motorsport, Tal Moreeb, entertainment and Liwa Village. The Liwa Dates Festival is a separate agricultural and heritage event focused on date farming, competitions and local products. Always confirm the organiser, season and location before booking a trip.
Tal Moreeb: The Landmark Behind the Festival
Tal Moreeb—also written Tel Moreeb or Moreeb Dune—is the natural landmark most closely connected with Liwa International Festival. Official Abu Dhabi tourism information describes it as more than 300 metres high with an incline of approximately 50 degrees.
The enormous dune creates a memorable background for specialised hill-climb racing and evening festival activity. Under artificial lighting, the dune face becomes visible from a distance and can be used as a dramatic part of the event’s visual presentation.

Do events run continuously?
No. Many races, shows, workshops and family attractions operate at specific times. Some days may focus on one type of competition, while other days may offer larger entertainment programmes. Arriving without the current schedule can lead to long waiting or missing the main event.
New Year’s Eve
The previous edition offered a major New Year’s programme with live entertainment and fireworks. The next edition includes 31 December 2026 within its confirmed date range, but the exact countdown, performers, access rules, fireworks time and ticket conditions must be officially announced.

Liwa Festival Motorsport Guide for Spectators
Motorsport is one of the festival’s defining features. The sand, steep slopes, specialised tracks and desert setting create a different atmosphere from a normal circuit. The vehicles can be extremely loud, fast and visually dramatic.

How to Reach Liwa Festival from Abu Dhabi and Dubai
Al Dhafra is best reached by road. Official tourism guidance estimates approximately two to three hours from Abu Dhabi City depending on the exact location. The journey from Dubai can be considerably longer, especially with stops, traffic and festival diversions.
Private car
Flexible but tiring
A private car gives control over luggage and departure time. The driver must remain rested for the late return, and a normal road car must stay on paved routes.
Private transfer
Simple for families and groups
A pre-arranged driver removes parking and fatigue concerns. Confirm waiting time, return location and whether overnight accommodation is required.
Taxi
Suitable only with a full plan
Do not assume a taxi will be immediately available for the long return. Arrange pickup or use an official queue and approved service.
